Title: Reflections of an Ethical Plumber
Alan: Hi, I'm Alan Urszuy, the owner of 1st Choice Plumbing, and I want to share
some thoughts with you as concerns the meaning of this world. What I mean by
that is how to express honest values in day to day life. i will to work with an
example from my work as a plumber. One day I was called to a client's mansion to
make a plumber repair. As I was passing the tankless heater, I discovered signs
of a possible CO leak. Carbon monoxide is an odorless
gas, which is poisonous, and all too often the cause of fatal domestic
accidents. This man didn't even have a CO detector in the basement, which would
have warned him that his gas line was leaking the potentially fatal poison.
Although I wasn't called to the home to check out the gas lines, I felt
an obligation as a fellow human being, to help the guy out, and I took the time
to check the gas line leading into the heater,
and indeed found that it was leaking. I fixed the leak, and explained to the
client what he needed to do re installing a CO detector in the basement. By
going out of my way, I not only averted a potentially deadly accident, I also
helped the homeowner take steps to prevent the occurrence of the accident in the
future.
Boruch: That's a very lovely story Alan. There are so many people
in life that won't do an inch more than they are require to, and here you went
out of your way to improve the lot of your client, even when you weren't
obligated to. People could do a lot worse than to have an ethical plumber like
you, who is willing to go the extra mile for his client, working for them. Well
that wraps up another episode of ג€What's New in Plumbing," I'm Boruch Fishman,
have a great day.
